Wilder Park Conservatory is a greenhouse sanctuary in Elmhurst filled with tropical plants, seasonal flowers, and lush greenery. The building opened in 1923 as the Elmhurst Park District's first major project, built onto an original greenhouse from the 1860s that had belonged to a local estate. A major restoration in 2013 replaced the aging structures with a modern greenhouse while keeping the site's historic character intact.

The Conservatory sits at the heart of a piece of Elmhurst history. The property once belonged to the Wadhams, King, and Wilder families, who were known for their dedication to plants and gardens. Louisa Boyd King, who lived here in the late 1800s, became a influential figure in American horticulture and founded the Women's National Farm & Garden Association. That gardening heritage lives on in the Conservatory today.

Visitors can walk through the greenhouses year-round and see changing seasonal flower shows. The setting is peaceful and free to visit. Nearby, the Wilder Mansion (also on the park grounds) now serves as an event space and stands as one of the few remaining buildings from Elmhurst's earliest days. The Conservatory is a quiet place to spend an afternoon surrounded by growing things, or to take photos of the plants and tropical displays.
