After months of what looked like a giant dirt pile, the Wagner Center is finally taking shape! 🏗️
If you’ve driven past the site just off West Avenue near Berens Park, you’ll see the walls are finally going up!
These are huge panels of precast concrete that’ll form the exterior walls of the new gym, indoor turf field, and gymnastics center.
Wondering what took so long? Those quiet months were actually really busy! They demolished the old building, cleared and excavated the site, put in underground utilities, and poured the foundations. Basically all the stuff you can’t see from the street.
As a reminder, the new Wagner Community Center will be four times the size of the old one, with an indoor turf field, full gym, elevated walking track, dance and gymnastics studios, and an indoor play area, among other things!
It’s still on track to open fall 2027 (and it’s on budget, too)!

Hey Elmhurst! After months of what looked like a giant dirt pile, the Wagner Center is finally taking shape.
If you're new here, my name is Tamara, and I do video marketing for small businesses. And I keep up on all things Elmhurst so you don't have to.
So if you've driven past the site just off of West Avenue, right near Berens Park, you are seeing that the walls are finally going up. These are huge panels of precast concrete and they'll form the exterior walls of the new gym, the indoor turf field, and the gymnastics center.
And if you were wondering what was taking so long, those quiet months were actually very busy ones. They demolished the old building, cleared and excavated the site, put in underground utilities, and poured the foundations. Basically, all the stuff you can't see from the street.
And just as a reminder of what's coming: the new Wagner Community Center is going to be four times the size of the old one, with an indoor turf field, a full gym, an elevated walking track, dance and gymnastics studios, and an indoor play area, among other things.
The whole thing is still on track to open fall 2027, and it's on budget as well. So next time you drive by, you'll actually finally have something to look at.
