City Manager Jim Grabowski is retiring, with his last day on July 31st. Assistant City Manager Kent Johnson has been appointed to step in as interim while the search plays out.
Here’s how the process works: the city’s recruiting firm attracted around 80 candidates and narrowed it to about 20. From there, a special committee (the mayor plus the council’s four committee chairmen) will trim the list to eight people for interviews.
Those interviews happen in closed session, though all aldermen are invited to attend. The committee then picks four finalists, and the full council interviews them before making the final call.
The city hopes to make an offer by the end of August, so I’ll keep you posted as soon as we learn more!
