Fred LaFave Spanish Revival Homes on Mitchell Avenue in Elmhurst

Have you ever noticed that unique Spanish Revival home on the corner of St. Charles & Mitchell?!

Well, it’s not the only one!

Mitchell Avenue has almost a DOZEN Spanish Revival/Mediterranean style homes all clustered together…but why?!

These were built by architect Fred LaFave in the mid-to-late 1920s. He created this distinct Mediterranean pocket that stands out from the rest of Elmhurst’s architecture!

But he didn’t stop there!

LaFave also built over a dozen stately Tudor homes on the old Lindlahr Sanitarium property between Cottage Hill and Prospect (and throughout Elmhurst).

Keep an eye out while driving around town; you might spot one of his beautiful homes!

👉 Share this with the architecture/history lovers in your life!

**These are all private residences, so ALWAYS be respectful of their property!

Hey Elmhurst! I would argue that this is one of our most unique streets in town, architecturally speaking. We're here on Mitchell Avenue, and there are almost a dozen Spanish Revival/Mediterranean style homes here on this street alone. But why?

Well, we have architect Fred LaFave to thank for that. He constructed all these homes from the mid to late 1920s, and this Mediterranean style is super unique amongst the rest of Elmhurst's architecture.

But LaFave didn't just build Mediterranean-style homes here in town. He also built more than a dozen stately Tudor homes on the old property of the Lindlahr Sanitarium, located between Cottage Hill and Prospect. And I'm going to have more on that in a future video.

So, the next time you're driving around town, keep an eye out because you might see one of Fred LaFave's beautiful homes. My name's Amara, and I make video marketing easy for small businesses, and I keep up on all things Elmhurst so you don't have to.
