Henry Glos got permission in 1892 to build it under two strict conditions: stone construction only, and minimum $5,000 investment.
When it was finished in 1899, it cost $20,000 (about $786,000 today). The Beaux-Arts granite and bronze structure became the final resting place for Henry in 1905 and his wife Lucy in 1941.
The surrounding area was dedicated as a public park in 1981, though ownership of the actual mausoleum remains with the city.

Hey Elmhurst! Ever wonder why there's a mausoleum in the middle of this park? If you're new here, my name's Amara, and I do video marketing for small businesses and talk about all things Elmhurst so you don't have to.
So, we are in Glos Memorial Park, and this mausoleum actually houses two very prominent Elmhurst residents, Henry and Lucy Glos. So why is this here?
In 1892, the village board granted Glos the right to build a mausoleum on two conditions: one, the building had to be made of stone, and two, it had to cost at least $5,000.
The structure was finished a few years later in 1899, and it was four times the budget—about $20,000, which in today's money would equal about $786,000. It's a beautiful example of Beaux-Arts architecture and is crafted entirely of granite and bronze.
Henry was laid to rest here in 1905, and then Lucy in 1941. Then, in 1981, the area around the mausoleum was dedicated as Glos Memorial Park, which is cared for by the Elmhurst Park District, while the mausoleum itself appears to be owned by the City of Elmhurst.
